They are often not the same person, and this policy treats the storyteller’s rights as the weightier of the two.
3 · Wat ons insamelWhat we collect
- Van die koper: naam, e-posadres, afleweringsadres, en betalingsbevestiging. Kaart- en bankbesonderhede word direk deur ons betalingsverskaffers (PayFast, Ozow, PayPal) hanteer en raak nooit ons stelsels nie.
- Van die verteller: naam, WhatsApp-nommer, haar stemopnames, die uitgeskryfde teks daarvan, en enige foto’s en opdragte wat die familie oplaai.
- Tegnies: basiese webwerf-loginligting (IP-adres, blaaier-tipe) en die taalkeuse wat jou blaaier onthou. Ons gebruik geen derdeparty-advertensiekoekies nie.
- From the buyer: name, email address, delivery address, and payment confirmation. Card and bank details are handled directly by our payment providers (PayFast, Ozow, PayPal) and never touch our systems.
- From the storyteller: name, WhatsApp number, her voice recordings, their transcriptions, and any photographs and dedications the family uploads.
- Technical: basic website log data (IP address, browser type) and the language preference your browser remembers. We use no third-party advertising cookies.
4 · Hoe ons dit insamelHow we collect it

5 · Waarvoor ons dit gebruik, en ons regsgrondWhy we use it, and our lawful basis
Ons gebruik die inligting slegs om die boek te maak, te druk en af te lewer, en om die private klankbladsy te bedien wat die kodes in die boek oopmaak. Ons regsgronde onder POPIA is: die uitvoering van die kontrak met die koper; die verteller se uitdruklike toestemming vir haar opnames; en ons gewettigde belang om die webwerf veilig en werkend te hou. Ons doen geen geoutomatiseerde besluitneming wat regsgevolge vir jou het nie.We use the information only to make, print and deliver the book, and to serve the private audio page the codes in the book open. Our lawful bases under POPIA are: performance of the contract with the buyer; the storyteller’s express consent for her recordings; and our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure and functioning. We carry out no automated decision-making that has legal consequences for you.
6 · Toestemming, en die verteller se besondere staanplekConsent, and the storyteller’s special standing
Voordat ons enige vraag vra, stuur ons die verteller een boodskap wat verduidelik wat Stemme is, wie dit gee, en dat sy enige tyd kan stop. Sy moet uitdruklik instem. Sê sy nee, word geen boek gemaak nie en word die koper terugbetaal (min ’n administrasiefooi).Before we ask any question, we send the storyteller a single message explaining what Stemme is, who is giving it, and that she can stop at any time. She must expressly agree. She may withdraw her consent at any time, without reason — and her request to delete outweighs the buyer’s ownership of the gift. If she declines, no book is made and the buyer is refunded (less an admin fee).
7 · Spesiale persoonlike inligting en kindersSpecial personal information and children
Stemopnames kan van hul aard intieme besonderhede bevat. Ons hanteer die verteller se opnames en teks met die sorg wat POPIA vir sensitiewe inligting vereis, en verwerk dit slegs met haar toestemming en vir die doel hierbo. Stemme is bedoel vir volwasse vertellers. Ons maak nie doelbewus ’n verteller onder 18 se persoonlike inligting op nie sonder die toestemming van ’n ouer of voog.Voice recordings may by their nature carry intimate detail. We handle the storyteller’s recordings and transcripts with the care POPIA requires for sensitive information, and process them only with her consent and for the purpose above. Stemme is intended for adult storytellers. We do not knowingly process the personal information of a storyteller under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian.
8 · Wie dit sien — ons operateursWho sees it — our operators
Buiten ons klein redaksionele span deel ons persoonlike inligting slegs met drie soorte operateurs (soos omskryf in POPIA), elkeen kontraktueel gebonde om slegs op ons opdrag te handel, slegs te sien wat hul werk vereis, en niks te behou nie:- ons gasheer (webwerf- en lêerberging);
- ons transkripsiediens (stemnota na teks);
- ons drukker (druk en bind).
Betalings word deur PayFast, Ozow en PayPal hanteer as afsonderlike verantwoordelike partye vir die betaling self. Ons deel nooit met adverteerders of datamakelaars nie.Beyond our small editorial team we share personal information only with three kinds of operator (as defined in POPIA), each contractually bound to act only on our instruction, see only what their work requires, and retain nothing:- our host (website and file storage);
- our transcription service (voice note to text);
- our printer (printing and binding).
Payments are handled by PayFast, Ozow and PayPal as separate responsible parties for the payment itself. We never share with advertisers or data brokers. 9 · Oorgrens-oordragCross-border transfer
Ons huisves persoonlike inligting in Suid-Afrika waar ons verskaffers dit toelaat. Sommige operateurs (byvoorbeeld PayPal) kan inligting buite Suid-Afrika verwerk. Waar dit gebeur, doen ons dit slegs soos artikel 72 van POPIA toelaat — met jou toestemming, of onder ’n ooreenkoms wat ’n gelyke vlak van beskerming vereis.We host personal information in South Africa where our providers allow it. Some operators (for example PayPal) may process information outside South Africa. Where that happens, we do so only as section 72 of POPIA permits — with your consent, or under an agreement requiring an equivalent level of protection.
10 · SekuriteitSecurity
Opnames en teks word versleutel gestoor. Toegang is beperk tot die mense wie se werk dit vereis. Klankbladsye is nie deur soekenjins indekseerbaar nie en word slegs deur die unieke kode in die boek bereik. Ons hersien ons voorsorgmaatreëls gereeld, soos artikel 19 van POPIA vereis.Recordings and transcripts are stored encrypted. Access is limited to the people whose work requires it. Audio pages are not indexable by search engines and are reachable only through the unique code in the book. We review our safeguards regularly, as section 19 of POPIA requires.
11 · Hoe lank ons dit houHow long we keep it
Die klankargief bly aktief solank die familie dit wil hê — dit is die punt van die kodes in die boek. Opnames en teks word binne 30 dae ná ’n skrapversoek uitgevee. Bestelrekords hou ons vyf jaar, soos die belastingwet vereis, waarna dit vernietig word.The audio archive stays live for as long as the family wants it — that is the point of the codes in the book. Recordings and transcripts are erased within 30 days of a deletion request. Order records we keep for five years, as tax law requires, after which they are destroyed.

Onder POPIA het jy die reg op: toegang tot jou inligting; regstelling of skrapping; beswaar teen verwerking; die onttrekking van toestemming; en om ’n klag by die Inligtingsreguleerder in te dien. Al hierdie is gratis en sonder rede. Skryf aan privaatheid@stemme.co.za en ons antwoord binne sewe werksdae.Under POPIA you have the right to: access your information; correction or deletion; objection to processing; withdrawal of consent; and to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
